[Updated] Back Spin Tutorial. Corrected ver.

Requirement:
1. Scientific calculator
2. Power 20 (1W - 240y) and above
3. Spin 6 or 7.

Tutorial:

North, South = 0° , East, West = 90°

Calculation of Power

1. Club.
1W - 20
2W - 16
3w - 12

Depending on the club you use, add the above value to the distance of hole from the ball.

2. Wind.

If wind is against you, add. If wind is in favour of you, subtract.
Eg. 3m 45° wind against you:
Add 3cos45 = 2.12

3. Hole Height.

Add the hole height to your calculation.

4. Combine everything and divide the value you get over your maximum power * 100 to get the % power required.

Calculation of Angle

1. Club, Wind, Power and Hole Height

1W - 1.125
2W - 1.195
3W - 1.264

Multiply the respective value to the horizontal component of the wind and the percentage of power needed to get the no. of squares left/right of hole.

Hole Height: Multiply 1 - (Hole Height/100) to the above value.
Eg. 1W 91% 2m horizontal(90°) wind Hole Height -3.14m: 1.125 * 2 * 91% = 2.0475 = 2.05
2.05 * 1 - (-3.14/100) = 2.05 * 1.03 = 2.11

Power: Multiply 1 - (Max power - Power required)/100 to the above value.
Eg. Power needed to bs = 230y and max power is 242y. Multiply 1 - (242-230)/100 = 0.88 to the value.

2. Ball slope

The ball slope is the inclination of fairway where the ball is positioned. It is shown by the green line across the golf ball on the bottom left hand side of the screen with '100%' circling around.
Reading the ball slope - For every break in the green line across the ball, multiply it by 0.2. EG. There are 3 breaks and the line is slanting towards the left, the ball will land approximately 0.6 squares towards the left of where u are aiming. So yo have to move right by 0.6 squares to counter it.
But its so hard to count the number of breaks. I squint my eyes at the ball and can't even make out how many breaks there are. How?
To read the breaks, press spacebar to charge your power. The green line will be outlined by bold black lines. You can then count the number of breaks easily.

In this case, there are 7 breaks, so u need to move 7 * 0.2 = 1.4 cells left to correct for the slope

3. Green slope

Ahh..this is usually based on experienced.
For a rough guide, if the dot on the green is on the extreme ends of the boxes, the green slope is 1. If the dot is slightly off centre, the green slope is approximately 0.1-0.2.
Eg. Dot on extreme right of box -> ball will bounce right when it hits the green. Therefore, you have to shift left by 1.5 square to counter the deflection.

4. Combine everything to get the correct number of squares from the hole.

Example:

Scenario:
Distance from hole: 211y
Wind: 3m, 40° in favour of direction towards the left, i.e northwest.
Hole Height: 1.68m
Ball slope: 3 breaks with green line slanting towards right.Green slope: 0.5squares towards the right.Club: 1W 242y

Power

Power needed = 211 + 20 + 1.68 - 3cos40° = 230y
Power % = 230 / 242 *100 = 95.1%

Angle

Wind: 3sin40° * 1.125 * [1 - (1.68/100)] * [1 - (242-230)/100] = 1.88 squares right
Ball slope: 0.6 squares left
Green slope: 0.5 squares left
Combining: Angle = 1.88 - 0.6 - 0.5 = 0.78 squares right.

Overall: Aim 0.78 squares right of hole and hit a power of 95.1%.

hi elfen, just gotta couple of questions.

for power computation, u said to add windpower * cos (angle). this angle, is it taken from the x axis, or the y axis? this would help me clarify things, thanks!

hi elfen, have some queries.

for power computation, u said to add windpower * cos(angle). is this angle taken from the vertical (y axis), or the horizontal (x axis)? cheers

Hi....i dun quite understand how u read the wind. its 0 degree to 360 degree? or quarters of 90 degree? If its 0-360? where is 0? north, south, east or west? Calculator 0 degree start from east. Using your old formulae I notice your 0 start at South. pls enlighten. Tks a million and great work on bs formulae!

umm hi elfen.. ur notes are useful but i dun understand 1 part.. u said..

If wind is against you, add. If wind is in favour of you, subtract.
Eg. 3m 45° wind against you:
Add 3cos45 = 2.12

but.. why >> u use sin? Wind: 3sin40° * 1.125 * [1 - (1.68/100)] * [1 - (242-230)/100] = 1.88 squares right

and i calculated .. it's not 1.88 =/ if use sin, all multiply together is 1.928. if use cos, all multiply together is 2.236929442..

._. i dun understand >.<

i not quite sure for the green slope... cud u hav a snapshot showing how to c it... coz i dun quite understand on how to c the dot.... the dot is the black dot of the hole?

sorry if it's bothering... thanx.. juz wud lik to b betta~ :)
